PILL-MACHINE FOUND

A few days after the arrest, counsel concluded, Senior Revenue Officer A. W. Grimmitt went up to the house and made a search for a pill machine, of which there had not been any trace. He eventually found parts of a pill machine about 20 yards from the house in some long grass on the hillside.

THE EVIDENCE

Mr. P. C. Morgan, Overseer in the Public Works Department, pro- duced plans of “High__House.”

Mr. A. Hutton Potts testlied that he had been, the tenant of "High House" for seven years. It was a big place and situated in a very quiet district. His indoor staff comprised a cook, a coolle, and a No. 1 boy; a chauffeur

and a gardener were the outdoor Ser vants. It was his practice to leave the house at noon on Saturday. The chauffeur would drive his car with Mrs. Potts, the No. 1 boy, a baby mah and his son to the Vehicular Ferry and they would go out to Fanling. They would stay there over the week-end and re- turn to "High House" between 7 and 8 p.m. on Sunday... This was invariable habit during the hunting season, which this year started pa November 27.

30 years ago. The last balance sheet was three years ago, when a profit was shown. From then till the time of the fire, the Arm neither made profit nor showed a loss.

The main items stored on the premises Were shark-fin, awabi, sea-grass. etc. The marine pro- duce was put in boxes and wrap- ped with grass' matting. It was his opinion that the fire might have been started by a lighted cigarette-end being dropped on the matting bundles,
