DRAMA OF HUNGRY GIRL
AND KINDLY LADY Hundreds Of Women Now Helped In Hong Kong
The growth of the Hong Kong Women's International Club through a period of five years since its inception was traced by Mrs. Lambert Dunbar, its President, speaking at the weekly tidin of the Rotary Club, at the Hong Kong Hotel, yesterday."
The occasion was the Club's Ladies' Day. In addition to a largo gathering of members and fellow Rotarians from abroad, many lady guests were present.
"
Mrs. Dunbar stressed the part taken by Lady Southern in the formation of the Club,, as well as the great financial help given by Mr. Tang Shin-kin and the invaluable voluntary assistance in the organisation and managament of the Club offered by eager members.
Before asking Mrs. Dunbar to address the gathering, Major H. D. Walker (President) announced that the Children's Playground Associa tion had organised a sporta day to be held at the Southorn Playground (Wanchai) on Wednesday, February 2. He mentioned, amulst applause, that Lady MacGregor had kindly con sented to present the prizes, which had been donated by Sir Atholl MacGregor. He extended a hearty invitation to all members to be present at the event.
Next Tuesday, being a public holiday, the President said that the regular weakly tithin would not be beld.
Mr Dunbar was warmly welcomed when she rose to speak. She said:
A HUNGRY GIRL · Our Cine was really founded on a hot afternoon in" the late summer of 1932. The scene was a hairdresser's shop; the setors were two-a tired malicurist, and Hong Kong's greatest organizer, Lady Southorn. The action was brief-the scissors slipped, the manicurist wopt, and Lady Southern
questioned. The girl had had no tiffin; hover had
any, as she couldn't afford to eat in town, hadn't time to go home, and couldn't relish a cold titin brouglit from home and eaten in the noise and erowd of the shop.
Lady Southorn then went about, questioning all the girls and women' she could meet in offices and shops, as to where they ate tin. With the exemption of a fortunate fow, who had time to go home, they all replied either that they brought a sandwich to the office or that they didn't eat tiffin.

BULGARIAN
CABINET CRISIS
New War Minister Appointed
Sofia, Jan. 25.
The Bulgarian Cabinet crisis, which had been simmering during recent months, came dramatically into the open today when King Boris dropped his "strong man," General Lukov, from the post of war Minister and appointed Gen- eral Daskalow, Commander of the Plevmo Garrison, to the position of leader of the Cabinet: Other changes are also announced,

the group which has been pressing for the return of thore democratic rule and the restoration of the constitution.
After tracing the further develop ment of the Club, the speaker said:
Our membership has grown from 80

During the late sum- mer, when wo gave guest privileges to 150 Shanghai women refugees, we served from 89 to 70 tifins a day. Our largest crowd at tilfin was fed on the 23rd of last December, when 12 women came to eat turkey and fixin's for 50 centa. This is an annual cluh event and I would like to assure the 20Reuter. women who were too late for turkey, that next year there will be enough for all (Laughter)
MENTAL NOURISHMENT

practical scale, food was, and is, the most important of our activities; but wo have been able to offer our mem- bors mental nourishment on occasion. Mr. Teeling's speech, in the Clab rooms, on women and unemployment, was perhaps the highlight of those Mid-Summer Weather
occasions, though two Eashion shows may have pleased the majority of our members more.
Our sinking fund has been invest- ed to bring us in a small income, anough to guarantee us against an occasional deficit; but we have paid our way from the beginning. We have had gifts from sympathisers-a radio. electric refrigerators, carpets, lamps, modern gas cookers. It seems a pity to miss such an opportunity to ask for something, but we really don't need anything at the moment.

The White House announcement that President Roosevelt's naval message is not ready and will not be sent to Congress until the end of the week, or the beginning of next week, has been made the occasion for reports that, pending clarification of the in- tentions of other Fowers, notably Japan and Great Britain, the administration is not entirely satisfied with regard to the size of battleships it should recommend.
