local waters This was seen by the Japanese destroyer, which was still in the vicinity and it made to go towards the Tal Hing. The latter continued on her way with- out paying any attention, however, and who she reached British waters the destroyer turned about and sailed away. At Capeulmun.Well, A.F.C. W. Tork E after supplying the crew with food and water, the Tal Hing left the junk. One or two of the crew ex- pressed the belief that their lives had been saved by the timely ar- rival of the Canton boat,
So far as can be ascertained no attempt was made by the destroyer to fire on the junk or its rescuer, but one report states that just be- fore the Tai Hing entered British waters a signal was hoisted order- ing her to stop.. This, however, cannot be confirmed.

NOT OBSERVED Arrivals from Maeno yesterday said that they had no knowledge of the reported Japanese landing at Tongkawan, in Chungshan Dis- trict, when questioned by a "Daily Press" representative.
Owing to misty weather, they could not observe if there was any unusual activity along the coast, nor did they see any Japanese war vessels on the way.
One Japanese cruiser, however, had been. hovering about for many days past, but she was not seen yesterday.
