If the weather is favourable there are prospects of salvaging the Dollar liner "President Hoover which went aground off Holshito Island recently. according to Mr. T. B. Wilson, Manager of the local office of the Dollar Steamship Lines, Inc., who returned to Hong Kong yesterday after a visit to the wrecked ship.

Mr. Wilson, together with Capt. TH. G. Brayfield left Hong Kong on Dec. 12. Mr. T. Swan of the Tatkoo Dockyard and Capt. George Anderson, representing the US. Salvage Association had left here carlier on the s.s. President Me- Kinley..

In an interview with "The Dally Press yesterday, Mr. Wilson said they anchored on the south side of the island in a sheltered bay and President found there the 3.5. Plerce standing by to take of the remainder of the crew and what baggage and mall that had been salvaxed. The U.S. destroyer Al- den. the Hosan Mary and a Japan- rse destroyer were also standing by ready to render what assistance might be necessary.

In the Colony of Hong Kong In- cluding the Island. Kowloon and the New Territories during the week ending at 8"a.m. on Satur- day, the 18th instant, there were altogether 49 traffic accidents, as the result of which two persons were killed and 16 persons were in. fured.

Of the persuns killed, a Chinese boy, aged 5 years, was knocked down and fatally injured by a motor lorry while running across the road.

A Chinese boy, aged 9 years, died from injuries received when he fell to the ground and was run over by a motor lorry while walking in the roadway..

A doctor and a pathologist ex- pressed different views at a Cam- berwell inquest about the death of Robert Henry Collingridge, 60 metalworker, of Dante-street, Wal- worth

Dr. Benzion Kounine said that Collingridge first came under his attention in 1938 auffering from chronic bronchitis, miocardial de- generation and dilatation of the lungs. He agreed he put on the death certificate "silfcosts of the lungs and heart fatture."

£10,000, Kenneth Kemp, an 80- year-old recluse, died in misery in

a shanty in Johannesburg.

It is stated that until recently he slept on a tattered mattress stuffed with bank-notes worth many thousands of pounds. There is reason to belleve that he buried the money some time ago.

It is not known, how Keipp made this money. He had been in Africa for many years, roaming apparent- ly. aimlessly about the country.
