Venerent disease appears - (about six per cent of the ship's Company).
In March, April, and May of this year, there were Son cases of Venereal Disease amongst the ship's Company on leave at Hong Kong - (about five per cent of the ship's Company).
Following leave granted to nearly all the ship's Company early in August at the port of Macao, there were only five cases, about 2.4 per cent, of Venereal disease.
In reporting to you the proportion of sufferers from Venereal disease in this ship since her arrival in China, I have not included the secondary Syphilitic affections, which have been frequent and aggravated and have deprived the ship of the services of men for long periods.
One death has occurred from pulmonary disease, where the man's health had previously suffered very much from a bad form of Syphilis contracted at Hong Kong, and had predisposed him to disease. Five men have been invalided as unfit for service.
