Satisfactory Standard Of Work During The Year
The annual prize distribution of the Peak School took place yester- day afternoon at the Peak Club, there being a very large attendance of parents and friends, Mrs. N. L. Smith, wife of the Colonial, Secre- tary, presented the prizes.
Miss New» The Headmistress, sholme, in her report for the year 1938-1937 said the school year be- gan on September 14 with 59 names on the roll and ended an July 17 with '83 pupils. The attendance was quite well maintained through- out the year, and the health of few the children, except for a isolated cases, had been good. The school was inspected on several occasions by Mr. Ralston. The children worked well and a satis- factory standard of work had beer. shown. Excellent reports had been received of former pupils who had gained distinction in their studies locally and in England.

In a short speech, Mrs. Smith said it gave her auch pleasure to be present that afternoon, and to, know that such good progress had. been achieved during the year by the School. The prize distribution was pre- ceded by a splendid programme of entertainment provided by the pupils, including scenes from Long- fellow's "Hiawatha."
In making suggestions for activi- ties of the coming year, Dr. Hert. lots said it might be a good idea to start a Natural History Society, in which the Aquarium Society would be a branch. He and Mr. Sugars thought much of the nction and he intended to give it every consideration on his return from leave next year. Another suggestion, made by Mr. Sugars, was to start a Chinese sub-section of the Society. These suggestions would be put forward for the Council to consider.
