CATTLE THIEF

Stealing a man's horse was a greater crime than killing the man himself in the old days of the west. according to Ken Maynard, hero of a hundred western dramas. and one of the outstanding au- thorities on the West. His latest Columbia screen play is "The Cattle Thief" showing at the Alhambra Theatre to-day.

"The penal code in the old days of the west always meted out death to a horse-stealer because stealing a man's transportation in a region where a horse meant the differ- ence between life and death was a deliberate act,55 Maynard said.

"However, kllling a man was an- other matter. Since all men car- rled guns, shootings were common. and the courts' were always ready to believe that extenuating cir- cumstances existed when a man

was killed in a shooting melee." the Columbia star explained.

In "The Cattle Thief" Maynard meets trickery with treachery and matches bullets with brains as he wages an undercover war against the prairie plunderers. Appearing with him is Geneva Mitchell, Ward Bond, Sheldon Lewis and Roger Williams.
