DR. KOTEWALL'S

SPEECH

which few schools in Hong Kong can equal and none can excel.

Mr. Upsdell has just said that worthy of Ita position in the young as the College is, traditions,

surely established. I am very glad Colony, are being steadily and

of this. But my young friends, please remember that tradition is not created in a day. Whittier, the American poet, says: "Trail- tion wears a snowy beard.” The cherished traditions of a school are not bulit up by mere scholastic attainments or by special prowess la the field of sport. In his re- port your Headmaster has, in some ́measure, indicated to you the way. If you will" follow, that path, re- solutely and constantly, you may count yourselves worthy sons of King's Collego,” je

Dr. Kotewall added that he had persuaded Mr. Kay to grant the School a whole holiday on Monday. (Loud Applause);

Three cheers for Dr. Kotewall and thres for the School and its

ceedings.

Dr. Kotewall then addressed the Headmaster terminated the pro- gathering as follows:-

I should like to take this ep- portunity of thanking the Staff for their kind co-operation during the nine months I have been in this school whilst Miss Anderson has been on leave. Such help given with cheerfulness, sympathy and understanding, makes for the smooth-running of a school

We, and the pupils, wish to tender our grateful thanks to parents for Anancing their chil- dren's fancy costumes, to Dr. Her- klots for the loan of plants, to Mr. Finnie of the Taikoo Docks for put- ting up this platform and for the

extra chairs lent. And to Mr. Phillips of the Talkoo 'Sugar Re- Anery for loaning" and arranging the foot-lights. They add so much to the general effect of an entertainment.

We are very pleased indeed to have Mrs. Phillips here this after- noon, and we wish to thank her for coming to distribute the prizes.
