MISS ANNA TAM MARRIED

Registry Ceremony

Miss Anna Tam, of "Jessville, R.BL. No. 324 Pokfulam, daughter of the late Mr. Tam Ha Sze, was married to Mr. Tony Liang, of Messrs. Jardine, Matheson & Co., Ltd., residing at No. 1 Village Road, son of Mr. Liang Yim Hing, retired merchant at the Registry, Supreme "Court, yesterday. The witnesses were Messrs., W. N. Thomas Tam and T. F. Lo.

After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Gloucester Hotl where Sir Robert Ho-tung proposed the toast to the bride and bride- groom. He said:-

father, Mr.

Ladles and Gentlemen: It was a very great pleasure to me to have been asked to propose the health and happiness of the bride and. 'bridegroom this afternoon, and I am truly delighted to do so in view of my long intimate association with both familles, who are now united by the tles of marriage.

The bridegroom's Liang Yen Hing, who is known in Tientsin and in North China as "The Grand Old Man of Tientsin," has, like myself. been associated with the "Princely House of Jar- dine" for more than a half cen- tury. I Arst knew him over fifty years ago, and we have been busi- ness colleagues and warm friends ever since. Mr. Liang and I are alike in at least two things. - First¬ ly, we both enjoy delicate health. I say "enjoy" because though it was said of us that we would not live long, we have both passed the human span of three score years and ten; and secondly, we both possess a beard, though Mr. Liang's is longer. It would, of course, have been a great pleasure to us all in Hong Kong if this Grand Old Man could have been with us this after- moon, but, though ten years his impossible it was for him to un- junior, I can quite understand how

dertake such an arduous journey during these difficult times. But I am sure you will all be glad to know that he is still hale and hearty, and I feel sure that his thoughts are with us to-day.

Both the bridegroom and his elder brother Albert were in the Colony a few years ago for the purpose of pursuing their studies at the Hong Kong University, and whilst they were in Hong Kong I had the privilege of being their guardian. The bridegroom's' sister,
