There must have been rurcours that the West End of London would be without a pantomime this year.
It can now be stated definitely that the tradicional Christmas entertainment will again hold the boards at the Lyceum.
It will be the 26th pantomime at that theatre. The title is "Beauty and the Beast," which has not been seen in London for some years.
Another West End pantomime will be "Cinderella," which is to be presented for special matinees by the, children
the Actors' Orphanage, of which Mr. Noel Coward is the president.
Rehearsals have already begun, and the pantomime will have a fortnight's Fun in the Actors' Orphanage Theatre at Langley, Bucks, before coming to London. The London theatre, at which it will be presented has not yet been chosen.
DEATH OF MR. G. A. BEST
Mr. G. A. Best. FRHS., formerly Assistant Curator 01 Gardens, Straits Settlements, died in En- gland recently following a street accident in which he was gravely, injured by a motor cycle. Best, who

was only $2 received his horticural training at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kow. He joined the Gardens De- partment, S.S., in February. 1921 and served at Singapore and Penang.
He was an active and vigilant officer who took a keen interest in the horticultural work of the Department, and he and his wife, who died last year, formed many friendships in the Colony.
Latterly he suffered considérably from an affliction of his sight and eventually was obliged to leave the country on retirement, in February.
