THE ELEVENTH EXTRA RAGE MEETING HELD AT THE RACK COURSE YESTERDAY WAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL. ONE,' FEATURED AS IT WAS BY EXTREMELY GOOD SPORT. THE FINISH IN THE HONG KONG ST. LEGER." THE SECOND RACE ON THE PROGRAMME, WAS ONE OF THE BESTSEEN IN THE VALLEY FOR MANY A LONG DAY. IT WAS WON IN GRAND STYLE, BY HAPPY EVE. WITH MR. P. MARSHALL UP. THE SECOND PONY WAS "EXPANSION TIME (MR. S. C. LIANG) WHICH WAS ONLY A SHORT HEAD IN FRONT OF THE SECOND STRING FROM THE EVE STABLE-HAVOC. EVE WITH MR. NORMAN, DEITZ ON THE SADDLE.
Tri the fith race of the day Bobniak Star, ridden by Mr. S. C. Liang, sustained, it is arned, a broken leg, throwing the jockey heavily. Mr. Liung escaped with a bad shaking but the pony had to be, brouggly back to the stables in the 'ambulance box and later destroyed. The most successful jockey of the day was Mr. Donald Black who had two firsta while Mr. Dunbar headed the owners' list with two wins. The Derby Day-Yam Sing combina to paid only $31.70 for the Daily Double while the biggest dividend of the day was paid
by Harvest View (Mr. Y. T. Fung) who returned $81.90 for a $5 bet.
CASTLE PEAK HANDICAP
One of the best finishes seen in Happy Valley for many a long day was provided in the Castle Peak Handicap when Wild Life (Mr. D. Black finished with an excellent burst of speed to win the Castle Peak Handicap from Gladiator (Mr. F. Marshall) who was a short head in front of Bear Claw (Mr. S. L Yuen). The finish was very thrill- ing, the issue being in doubt till the very end."
Oak Bay. (Mr. W. H. S. Davis) and Gladiator ran side by side for three parts of the race but after the Rock was passed Bear Claw moved up and ran together with the two leading ponies. Then at the Dis- tance Post Wild Life came up like a streak and challenged the leaders strongly, eventually winning by a head.
