Honoured By Chinese Catholic In Manila
The Superior-General of the
tin Gillet. O.P., who is shortly to Dominican Order. Very Rev. Mar-
visit Hong Kong, was honoured by a special banquet giver in his honour by the Chinese Catholic Association during his stay in Manila. Many of the leading pre- fessional and business men of the city were present.
The President. welcoming Fr. Gillet, reculled the numerous debts of gratitude which the Chinese owe to the Dominican Order, and referred with great satisfaction to the most cordial relations which now exist between the Government of China and the Holy See. He traced the history of the Chinese parish in Manila, which is under the care of the Dominican Fathers. and referred to the importarit part which it played in the spread of the Catholic Church in the Philippines. He mentioned also the project of building a new church, school and gymnasium. and announced that the Arch- bishop of Manila had agreed to donate a piece of ground of 6,000 "square metres for the purpose.
In reply, Fr. Gillet expressed his appreciation of the trials and painful experiences through which the Chinese Catholics. In common with all the people of their coun- try, are passing at the present time, and he urged those in Manila to be faithful to the ideals of their Association. He assured them that the Dominican Order would always be ready to help the Association in every possible way.

Mr. H. L Enson, Principal of the University of London, delivering an Inaugural address to the London Royal Free, Hospital School Medicine for Women recently, attacked members of the medical profession who "prostitute the science and art of medicine for gain."

"In medicine." said Mr. Eason, "as in all other professions, there is a small minority with no prin- ciples, who by their actions bring discredit to their profession out of all proportion to their number and lead the public to think that, they represent the
code of honour among us."
Referring to Dr. Cronin's novel, "The Citadel," Mr. Eason said: "I think that the medical profession and the public owe a debt of gratitude to the author for having disclosed to the public how the science and art of medicine may be, and is, on occasion prostituted for gain. In medicine, as in every other profession, the temptation is money."
