Filipino Community Celebrates At Gloucester
"Two years ago on this same day in 1935, the establishment of the Philippine Commonwealth was proclaimed. before the World by the then Secretary of War of the United States of America, heralding the birth of a new nation.
This was 'made possible by the maganimity and altruism of that great country, coupled with the capacity and ability shown by our leaders and our people for self-gove:ument," said Mr. LR. defouso, chairman of the local Filipino Community who celebrated the Second Anniversary of the establishment of the Philippine Commonwealth in the form of a luncheon ME the Gloucester Hotel yesterday,
The Chairman paid a tribute to the Hong Kong Government, acknowledging the Filipino Com- munity's debt of gratitude for the kind, fair and impartial manner, in which all members of their community have been treated and for the allotment of a recreation ground at King's Park to the Filipino Club "since 1927.

APPRECIATION

To the skeptics who have their doubts as to the outcome of our Commonwealth and the indepen- dent Philippines, we can only say that a nation who has produced such patriots as Rizal, Bonifacio, Mabini, Burgos and many others, and such present day leaders as Quezon, Osmiena, Roxas and the rest, with the backing of a hurd- working, honest and God-fearing people, is a nation that will make a success of her enterprise. the Philip-Ladies and gentlemen: Let us pines, during which he pointed out

Mr. Murphy drew His Worship's attention to the fact that it was not necessary for him
to prove that the defendants knew each other or that they had ever spoken to each other; nor that they had ever received money, or had at- tempted to do so. It was sufficient to show that they were members of the same gang in a conspiracy to defraud, to sustain the charge.
