To defeat a rival capitalist who sought the controlling interest in the Erle Ralroad. Jim Fisk, one of the most colourful of the early speculators lo America, printed and issued additional shares of stock, as dramatized in "Robber Barons, co-starred by Edward Ar- nold, Cary Grant, Frances Farmer, and Jack Oakie.
Starting as a peddler of calico, Fisk early in life displayed his Ingenuity by making a fortune during the Civil War, procuring
cotton from the South for the New England States. Later matching his wits against the best financial minds of New York, he soon rose to a position of power. Joining Daniel Drew in the management of the Erie Railroad.
Equally as flamboyant as his business career was his devotion to Josie Mansfield, whose ambition to become a theatrical star kept Fisk continually seeking additional resources. Fisk faunted his un-
conventional affair in the face of New York, climaxing his adulation theatre for her. Frances Farmer plays the bewitch- ing Josie.

Their comrades heard heavy rifle and machine-gun fire where the 19 p.m. eight men were belleved to be in Sports. (See Page 101. hiding, and it was assumed that they had perished.
Days passed and eventually a report reached the commanding officer of the eight men to the effect that they had escaped death and were in hiding in a dwelling on the southwest end of Yochow Road.
The oficer was delighted but amazed. for it was known that the Japanese were in that area in large numbers and it was not be- leved that so small a party of Chinese soldiers could hold out there for long. The report per- sisted and the commanding officer determined to attempt a rescue of the men.
The call for volunteers resulted in every man responding. The officer selected a small party, which he personally headed. In the gloom of night and with a heavy
rain falling, the officer däringly led his men through devious alley-. ways and lanes to a point near the home where it was believed the men were in hiding.
A lone Chinese soldier stealthily crept forward, gained entrance to the home and found the men, weak and suffering- but allve. Two of the eight could scarcely walk, but all managed to make their way from the place. They had almost gained the Chinese positions when Japanese sentries spied them and opened fire. But the night was
dark and the Japanese alm not so good.
The eight men wore then given their first hot meal in many a day and are now as fit as ever.
