BROADCASTS

Plan Welcomed In London
London, Oct. 30..
A warm welcome was accorded in the Commons yesterday" to the announcement of the Postmaster- General, Major Tryon; of the de- cision to broadcast in foreign The religion of Jesus is a religion languages, and it is well received of action. And there is need at this time, above all things, for action. But what action?. We long to help and there is so Bittle
we can do.
In a letter from England this week a man wrote to me, "I seem to be more moved by what is hap- pening in China than I have ever been over Spain, though it is so much carer home."

There are some words in the New Testament that may be fruit ful in action. They are from our Lord's parable of the wheat and the tares. The words. are----
in the press.
A full statement of the subject will be made next week by the British Broadcasting Corporation which will conduct the service. "The Times" recalls that there have been frequent complaints of anti-British propaganda broadcast regularly from Bari in Arabic and other languages of the Near and Middle East as well as in some of the languages of India.***
At one time the Government seemed to think that this attempt to poison the atmosphere could safely be treated with contempt. Lately, however, they have taken a less complacent view of the possible effect of this kind of pre- paganda.
It may be taken for granted, adds "The Times," that no attempt will be made to answer propaganda by counter-propaganda. The ob ject of the service is to supply what Major Tryon aptly hails "straight news" where at present there is an oversupply of news that is not straight.
The "Daily Telegraph" says the announcement is eminently satis- factory. The step was inevitable
not already overdue.
Let both "grow together." The world seems
more tares than wheat to-day. And as our "emotions are stirred by the-hate
lulness of their strangling power,. we long to pull them up. But, as in a nightmare, we are held back. We pour out our poor prayers. Weif spend ourselves in every effort to provide medical and other relle? for the suffering. Our hearts go out "in indignant sympathy. But we cannot reach the tares.
WORST SUFFERERS Not all programmes now being broadcast in foreign languages are necessarily propaganda or at any rate propaganda of an undesirable kind. But a great many of them are notoriously and scandalously The Church in China is suffer-subversive and the British Empire ing terribly, especially in the big has been among the worst sufferers cities where she has been strongest | from this subtle peace

Remits Considerable Sum For German Winter Relief
Berlin, Oct. 30. "Remitting a considerable. for German winter relief, the Duke of Windsor has sent the following letter from Paris to the leader of the German Labour Front Dr. Robert Ley.
The Master sowed good seed While men slept an enemy sowed cares. The servants come and ask "The Duchess of Windsor and I what is to be done. The Master wish to thank you, personally for answers, as no good farmer ever the interesting and pleasant ar would, "Leave the weeda till har-rangement of our trip through vest. There are some things very clear In this parable,
The tares are sown by an enemy: Evil is not of God, but of some enemy, some spiritual principle of Levil, which goes beyond our under-
standing.
There la, then, beyond our. understanding, some purpose of God in letting Evil grow till it gets such a stranglehold. It makes life uncomfortable and difficult,
"You have shown us every feld of activity of the German La- bour Front, and we are very much impressed by what is being done for the working population of Germany

· Blank Refusal "Of British Plan
London, Oct. 23.
Herr von Ribbentrop, German Ambassador to London, told - the Non-Intervention Committee to-
day that the Soviet formula, in- dicating a willingness to consider belligerent rights, after the with- drawal of the bulk of volunteers in Spain "means for us a blank re- fusal of this point of the British plan."

The granting of bellgerent rights and the re-establishment of con- troi wère essential and preliminary conditions for the withdrawal of von Rib- volunteers, sald Herr bentrop.
The German delegate asked if Russia would Participate in non- intervention in the future, or in- tervene openly.
"I do not see a way to lead us further the Soviet does not change her attitude. It is impos- to sible for me
any agree to action based on a solution" which is not approved" unanimously," stated Herr von Ribbentrop.
He suggested that the Chairman" of the Committee should devise some plan and Russia be persuaded to fall in ilne.
Replying, M. Ivan Malsky, the Soviet delegate, said: "The Soviet Government can no longer take any responsibility for a policy of non-intervention which it considers unjust, futile, and tending to encourage the aggressors,,
"In comformity with this atti- j tude the Soviet cannot accept in their entirety the British plan of July 14, or the French proposals based on the British plan, sub- mitted to the subcommittee October 18."

The Borlet Government, he said, was ready to support decisions which could be considered as con- tributing to genuine non-interven- tion.-

Strengthen your body against Feverish Diseases
The chance of catching malaria and other faver- ish diseases is far greater, if the power of resist- *ance is lowered. Lack of minerals in the body usually causes this lowering. Tiredness, heart troubles, irritability and dizziness are signs that your power of resistance is below par. Prevent serious trouble by taking Kalzana tablets regularly. Kalzana replenishes the mineral content of the body and blood cells in a perfectly natural way, strengthens the whole system, and so prevents serious infectious diseases, such as malaria, skin rashes, etc. A grateful Kalzana mer, Mr. E. B., writes ↑
"I have suffered from very bad nervous headaches for 10 years and after having taken Kalzana I feel as fit as a fiddle.
