COATS AND THEIR TRIMMINGS

Cloth coats with plain material collars

and tallor-mades with furs can be worn are now in fas- hion. Sables and silver foxes, go with black and...navy-blue “ensem- bles," while silk and satin blouses turn back from the throat in neatly tailored collars. Heavy trimmings of silver fox appear on the black afternoon coats which are worn at the races. Not only have these coats fur-trimmed col- lars, but they may have bands of fox down the sleeves and upon the "hem-line. Broad strips of fur are correct upon the fronts of At- ted three-quarter length jackets. as they give height to the figure. Triangular bands of fur are ar ranged to leave the waistline and to widen out over the shoulders into epaulettes.

Fur collars and trimmings are not always of the same colours as the coats. A prune-coloured duvyteen coat can have a collar of blue fox, and-crossed fox pelts are correct to wear with black or dark brown "ensembles."- There There are fewer dyed furs this season and colour contrasts are sought between coats and their trimmings, All the full-length redingotes have wide hem-lines and neatly atted waists. Lelong's black faceloth coats are trimmed with astrakhan to match on the small round collars and at the wrists, while four narrow handi of fur break the line from neck to wraist at regularly spaced intervals. A band of astrakhan may also be added to the hem, and the extra weight gives a good line and accentuatuates the flared width.

Afternoon coats of three-quarter: length are worn loose, showing the dresses they match. Later these coats will be folded over and held close with one hand, Collars and wide revers faced with fur are nice on these, wraps, but wide bands of fur folded down round neck and falling down the fronts to the bem are equally good Coats with very simple sleeves are worn at present. Those which fit tightly at the wrists have small fur cuffs, while wider sleeves are left plain and do not even have fabric cufis.

It is usual to relieve black with a touch of -colour. Deep blue emboidery and piping may trim black dresses, hats, 'scarves, and flowers worn on the lapels of black coats. aut

The alender outline pleases and the new skirts continue to be cut straight. The unbelted waistline has been accepted, but certain dresses have bands of colour, braid, or embroidery let into the material itself at the normal waist's position. Instead of a belt a red bandana-handkerchief figur ed with white and black can be worn as a sash on an iron-grey jersey frock. The materials for dresses to be shown at the end of the month are smooth. Close are preferred to fooser textures. and materials with a fannel Anish make for soft, warm colours. Malllet has a cashmere-facecloth which is suitable for afteraoon dresses and for evening dresses In the lighter colours. TWO-THREE PIECE ENSEMBLES

Two-plece dresses are in favour for the autumn, and the three- piece "ensembles," consisting of coats and tallormades, frequently show two or three different col- ours. A peacock-blue Vionnet coat goes with a brown dress. A wine- red jacket and a bright red blouse may be worn with a deep greet skirt, Orange, light brown, and pink-brown as well as red, green, and violet are outstanding colours by' day.

FANCY BUTTON

Buttons fashioned by hand from beaten metal and glazed pottery fasten the corsages of simple dresses. Square pale blue pottery buttons trim 2 rust-coloured tallormade and match a pale blue blouse. Coats frequently fasten with knots and bows of fabric. There is a number of tunic-length coats for the afternoon which have fitted waists and then fare out into wide hem-lines rimmed with silver fox, hudson-seal, of black monkey fur. The sleeves and fronts of these coats, as well as those of long coats, are also fur-trimmed. Loose travelling costs of oatmeal-coloured tweed have big collars of beaver. They are worn with dresses and tailor- mades in darker colours,

EVENING GOWNS

Afternoon dresses have softly draped neck-lines in bright silks and satins," which relieve the sombre black of the dresses them- selves. Scarf-collars of red, violet, ・・ and rich sapphire-blue satin pre- domiriate. Evening dresses follow Empire and Directoire lines with high waits, and long trains. In these high-waisted dresses the skirt fullness falls in the front from above the natural waist-line. A white Empire dress with a pleat ed skirt has a low square neck- line

and tiny putted sleeves. White and black satins are used fur slender Directoire dresses with tight alīt skirts finishing in long trains which are carried in the hand
