that although his duties have been increased, his salary remains the same.

Since the time when Capt. Watkins wrote his Memorial, you have been authorised, by Lord John Russell's despatch of the 23rd of June last, either to provide him with quarters or a pecuniary allowance in lieu of them.

I will refer Capt. Watkins to this addition which has been made to the advantages of his appointment.

Adverting to the small number of cases which appear to be tried in the Marine Magistrate's Office, and relying on the opinion of Lieut. Governor that they could be disposed of with little additional trouble in the Court of the Chief Police Magistrate
