A TOUCH OF COLOUR
PRE-VIEW
Colours are rich this autumn; dark glowing reds, ruby and wine tones, magenta, purply pinks and blues are among the leaders. As
and contrast.. coppery
brick toned reds and yellows are to be noted. Bokhara red, boagainvillea purple and storm green are colours Introduced by Victor Stiebel in his collection.
For daytime, he showed vividly coloured tweeds in plaid checks. sellaw and black plaid were used for the skirt of one suit while pain black woollen was used for the Jacket.
Little bolero dresses for after- noon had bright sashes swathed under the bolero; a black dress had a white sash and a white collar: a bright pink sash with a pink dahlia was worn with navy blue; another bolero dress Was allied with dark red. For evening a white dress with a little short sleeved bolero top had an under bodice nt pale pink, green and deep cyclamen pink swathed in folds..

Rust coloured suede made revers to a long cuat of Air Force blue. A gilet of the suede was worn be- neath the coat.
Flowers were used a great deal to decorate evening dresses: huge bunches of nasturtiums cal- ceolarias, roses, were among them. They were placed at the neckline. at the waist, on the hip. Some- times flowers or bows in darkly, glowing sequins were used, instead.
Bright candy pink made a short coat over a plain black day dress trimmed at the neck and walst with two flat bows, lined with pink.
Clever draping and ganging were 2 feature of the evening dresses: and, as a contrast to the tight slinky fitting styles, there were wide full skirted frocks in velvet, sometimes combined with net. A full skirted evening dress th dark wine red velvet had a deep hem of turquoise net, for instance.
*
Oyster, allver and coffee shades in satins and lames were used for some of the evening frocks. A widely cut aukle length cape with squared shoulders in pale coffee coloured velvet was worn over an oyster satin dress with a lace Jacket. Long 'purple gloves added a bright touch of colour.
Coloured gloves for evening were a feature of this collection often
the contrasting with
dress in colour tone. A Royal blue velvet evening gown trimmed, with large red Bowers down "the bodice was worn with dark red gloves.

Headdress and hats for even- ing were novel. A huge halo headdress of black lace tied under the chin W2.5 shown with 11 cyclamen red velvet gown and long black gloves. A. coarse black véll with a rose perched on the top of the head made another.
Tulle was used in various ways. Brightly coloured, it was swathed under the chin and tied on the top of the head like a bandage: short sequin scattered vells were just draped over the heud. Am- using little headdresses were copies of the traditional hair style used by Nigerian natives. Made 01 black wool and braid in little twisted sausage curls, they were faintly reminiscent of a barrister's wig and rather becoming.
Evening hats in lace and, velvet were exotic and striking. One with a jutting forward "brim tied under the chin and was worn with a white dress with flery, glowing flowers at the neckline. Black- gloves completed the outfit.
Another Ir dark, pansy purple velvet gave a botnet effect and was worn with a velvet dress. Flat, and platelike, was another. in blue velvet with a long tulle vell in blue, and worn with a blue velvet dress.

NEW JEWELLERY
Pearls are very fashionable, especially lemon tinted ones: green ones, too, with a scrap of green velvet finishing the necklet, and tying in a graceful little bow. 'Pink ones, and the famous milky. enes, are just as strongly favour- ed.
Twisted ropes of wee sced pearls have coloured beads just as tiny with them. Some wide bangles of ivory have paintings of dogs and birds on them.
