Jump In Reclaim Figures

The U.S. rubber questionnaire Agures for August published re- cently, were considered fairly satis- factory, according to a Singapore correspondent...

Crude rubber consumption last month, at 41,450 tons, was appre- clably below, the figures for the previous month and for August last

year

It La slightly above recent estimates, and was quite well re- ceived in Mincing Lane. None the less, the decline of over 5,000 tons, compared with August last year, is not altogether pleasant, and lends point to recent prophecies of a sharp fall in American car pro- duction.

STOCKS INCREASE Imports were well up, and this was reflected in an increase of nearly 7,000 tons in stocks. to 171,053 tons. The quantity of rub- ber afloat to America at the end of the month showed an increase of 5,000 tons.

There was a surprising jump in consumption of reclaimed rubber. from 11,025 tons to 14.671 tons; the ratio of reclaim to crude rose from 27.3 to 35.4 per cent. This move- ment is probably due to the fact that whereas production of tyres fell last month, production of other rubber goods, in which substantial quantities of reclaim would be used. must have been materially Increased..

COMPARATIVE FIGURES Following are the detalled ques- tlonnaire figures for August, with those for the previous month and for August last year:
