New York. Dët. 6. The New York Yankees drew first blood to-day when they won the opening game of the World Base- ball Series against the New York Giants by 8-1 as the scoring seven runs in the six in- nings

Carl Hubbell pitched for the Glants and "Lefty" Gomez for the Yankees. The former was driven off the mound in the sixth inning when the Yankees scored five times off him. Previous to that, however, he had held the Yankees down to only one hit in five innings.

Altogether the Glants tried four pitchers to-day. Hubbell was re- lleved in the sixth inning by Gum- bert, who in turn gave way to Coffman in the same session. Coffman

later replaced by Smith.

Helped by three walks and two errors, the Yankees went on a spree in the sixth frame and re- gister seven runs. Joe DiMaggio and Bob Scikirk each batted in two: Bill Dickey and Rolfe were responsible for two more, and the remaining one was scored on an error by the Giants.

The only other run registered by the winner was a cireult clout by Tony Lazzeri in the eighth session, off-Smith, the fourth and last pitcher tried by the Glants!

The Giants took a temporary lead in the fifth frame when Ripple scored as Mancuso hit into a dou- ble play.

While the Glants used four pitchers. Gomez stayed in the box right through for the Yankees and allowed only one walk. He struck cut two men.
