Shangha, Oct. 1: Fierce fighting raged through the night in the Chapel rector where heavy Chinese reinforcements were rushed to the front to check the advance of a Japanese nechanised attack the Elght Character Bridge.

JAPANESE ARRESTED IN SHANGHAI
Shanghai, Oct. 1: The Japanese Gendarmes Headquarters are rounding up all Japanese anti-war elements in the Shanghai area.
During September 25 and 26, 15 is learned, 10 soldiers among the troops stationed at Yangiszepoo and Hongkow districts have been I arrested.
On the same days over 30 civilians on Woosung Road in Hongkew district were rounded up and taken to a warship where they are now being questioned.- Central News.
