Dresses And Jewels
Black dinner dresses will be the most
worn during the autumn season. Their simple lines permit real jewels and rich, furs to be shown to advantage. A black marocain dress with an ankle- length skirt which is full in front may have long. tight sleeves laced down the outer sides with broad black ribbons. The fitted bodice of such a dress will have a Renals- sance neck-line and a linë of lacing down its front. Coarse black sk net and black woollen lace are suit- able materials for restaurant dresses. which should be trimmed with gold flowers at the waist- lines."
Cocktail dresses are plain in de- sign but rich in their fabrics Many are of reversible black satin crepe, which shows a fine ribbing on the dull side. Others are cut in silver and gold lamés. A num ber of houses follow the lines of their sports frocks when designing these amé. dresses. They have day-length skirts, high necks, and long, plain sleeves. Silver Jamé with a fine black overheck may be used for a clasical tailor-made. with which is worn a bright blouse of velvet or satin. Marcel Rochas puts a red blouse and a black velvet waistcoat with an "en- semble" of this kind. The dinner dresses at Lelong's are of ankle ' length with heavy frills of net, cut like paper garlands, on the straight hemlines. A black lace dress has two rubies round the ankles with a band of red velvet. ribbon between them.

For gala evenings New York women like luxurious, elaborate "carry-alls," which hold their cigarettes, powder, rouge lipstick, comb and money compactly, and brilliantly. The most elegant ver- sions are resplendent with rhine- stones or coloured stones. Mono- grams are popular for both day- time and evening vanities.

Many of the new coiffures fea~~- ture hair brushed softly from centre part into high, alde curls.
For a long time women have been using such brilliant lipstick that the most gullible man could not mistake its artificiality. But now unnaturally rosy cheeks and exotic, hand-drawn eyebrows are "passé." Every girl is striving for: a subdued, artistic effect when applying cosmetics, using only enough rouge to simulate a natural flush, enough lipstick to make the mouth beguiling, and eyebrows. -brushed to follow the natural bony.........
structure above the eyes.

All the smart young things are brushing out their locks, so that they fall in loose, natural waves, and are foregoing-háir tints that are too patently artificial.
