the topic of friendly discussion between the Lieutenant Governor, the Colonial Secretary, the Acting Attorney General and myself, (and if I remember rightly it was also referred to the then Chief Justice), whether or not Colonial Legislation would be properly applied to the correction of undoubted evils. The result was a conclusion that on the whole it was not then desirable to interfere by ordinance, nor (as far as I recollect) was it suggested that the matter should be referred home.
