SPRINT EVENTS PREDOMINATING, WILL HERALD THE OPEN-

ING OF THE SECOND HALF OF THE RACING SEASON, WHEN THE 7TH EXTRA RACE MEETING OF THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB TAKES PLACE TO-MORROW AFTERNOON AT THE HAPPY VALLEY, COMMENCING AT 2.00 PM. THE COURSE IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND GIVEN DRY WEATHER, EVERYTHING POINTS TOWARDS A SUCCESSFUL MEETING, BOTH AS REGARDS ATTEN- DANCE AND FARI-MUTUEL TURN-OVER.

Mr. P. P. Botelho, though progressing satisfactorily, has not fully recovered from his recent accident at Macao and will consequently not participate at the meeting. Mr. Donald Black, I understand, has also been in hospital and is a doubtful starter. The jockey squad, however, will be augmented by the inclusion of Messrs. B. L. Tao and K. S. Hsu, both Northern riders of repute. The former needs no Introduction to the public, having ridden in the Colony some years ago for Mr. Li Tse Fong, the popular owner of the "Gold" stable. It would appear that the scarcity of novice jockeys would- also make itself felt especially since there are 19 entries for the Novice Race but I doubt very much If more than a dozen"or_30_ ``will be` available:

The afternoon's racing opens with a mile race for "B" Class China ponies, the Tweed Island Bay Handicap. There is some ex- cellent materjal amongst the eleven entries, the majority of which will go to the post. Expansion Time, In view of the very excellent gallop last Saturday morning should be a good one to follow for this event. This iron grey is in fine fettle at the moment and will be ridden, it Is rumoured, by Mr. S.-C. Llang.
