ECONOMIC RECOVERY CONTINUES IN CANADA
Ottawa, Canada-The marked expansion in industrial employ- ment in Canada in recent montos furnished significant evidence of the continuance of the economic recovery during the first half of 1937. The Dominion Bureau of Statistics in a recent report says that "working forces were greater on the first of June than at any other
time in the last 17 years except for a short period of ›ex- ceptional prosperity from 1928 to 1930.
Most the decline in employment during the four years ended in the first quarter of 1933 has been coun- terbalanced by the steady improve- ment of the subsequent perlud.
The index of employment on June 1 at 114.3 was about 50 per cent greater than the low point of the depression reached in April 1933. The standing was still slight ly more than 10 per cent below that of August 1029 when the all time peak of Canadian employment was reached,"
