FROM THE

GAZETTE

Dangerous Drugs Ordinance

The "Gazette" contains the draft of an Ordinance to amend farther- the Magistrates Ordinance, 1932.

It is explained that Section 07 (2) of the Magistrates Ordinance, 1932. leaves the granting of ball to a person charged with felony or with certain serious indictable misdemeanors therein specified in the discretion of the magistrate, Offences against the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, which are indict- not so able misdemeanors, are

of the specified. Section 97 (3) Magistrates Ordinance. 1932. pro- vides that a person charged with any indictable misdemeanor not specified in subsection (2) is en-

bail on titled to be admitted to producing such surety or sureties for his appearance as the magis- tiate thinks it.

Recently there has been a great Increase in the number of offences against the Dangerous Drugs Or- dinance, 1935, and it is considered desirable that the granting of ball in these cases should be in the discretion of the magistrate in- stead of compulsory upon him on the requisite surety or sureties being produced.

The object of this B is, there- fore, to add offences against the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, 1935, to the indictable misdemeanors already speciâed in section 97 (2) of the Magistrates Ordinance, 1932, in order that the granting of ball, in the case of such offences, may henceforth be in the discretion of the magistrate.
