Drains. Under Report and
P/2
Definite A 12 of 1853, I constructed
a drain on the steep slope of the
hill ground to Albert Road for the
sum of £80;
184
at an angle of 60 degrees and the
velocity of the water is consequently excessive; I have reduced the quantity
of water that formerly found exit there and this lessened the danger
of failure.

This drain carries water from
the upper level and was intended to preserve the heavy embankments adjoining from injury by the fall of water over its surface; the service was effected with considerable difficulty as it was made over treacherous soil, partly in cutting and partly in filling, and as it received some damage before it was finally completed, it is placed under Report and Estimate A 12 of 1853.
Some covered Drains in the Bazaar estimated at £61.9.7 were commenced and an expenditure made accounting to £34.4.4 but in consequence of the unconsolidated state of the ground in which they were to be placed, I have not yet completed the service.
