An enjoyable concert and swim- yaning gala, organized by the Chung Sing Benevolent Society for funds in aid of the war refugees in North' China, was held last night at the Society's Bathing Pavalion at Ken-successfully nedy Town, West Point, when a large crowd of spectators attended.
Besides swimming exhibitions given by the members and friends of the Society, a brilliant" fire- works display, was also given from a dragon-boat as a grand finale.

A successful year was reported at the fiftieth annual meeting of the Hong Kong Football. Club held in the Clubhouse, Happy Valley, yes- terday evening, Mr. H. R. Forsyth
Vice-President) presiding.
Addressing the meeting the tinue to-night, and will conclude Chairman said:-
I
I am asked, on behalf of our. President, Sir Vandeleur Grayburn, to convey to you his apologies for his enforced absence to-night. take this opportunity of placing on record the gratification and pride with which members learned of the deservedly high honour which was bestowed on Sir Vandeleur on the occasion of His Majesty's corona- ilon. (Applause).
As recorded in the Committee's Report, the Club has lost three very old members through the death during the year of the late Sir James Stewart Lockhart, the late Mr... George Hutton Patts, and the late Mr. R. M. Dyer.
Total Income for the year amounts to 312,457.68 against total expenditure of. $11.269.35 resulting in a cash surplus of $1,188.33. "This surplus. however, 's not suff cient to provide for the amount set aside annually for the re- placement of assets, with the re- sult that after applying deprecia- tion amount of $3,252.44 there is a deficit at $2.064.11.
GATE RECEIPTS
The main feature on the Income side is the shrinkage of Gate Re- ceipts to the extent of approxi- #mately $1,000 compared with the
previous year.
Income from the Bar beats all records. at least for the past six years. I should like to take this opportunity of thanking. the Bar Convenor, Mr. Andrews, for the work he has performed and for the great amount of time and care he has bestowed in the interests of the Club as Honorary Bar Con- venor. (Applause).
Lawn Bowls subscriptions have thcreased by some $200 compared with the previous year.
Expenditure has increased-not through any extravagance, but
'duc rather to the natural cost of
development.
IMPROVED ACCOMMODATION
The addition to Ground and buildings comprises the cost of alterations and Improvements to the Club House. I think members must agree that the accommoda- tion now available has been great- ly improved. In this connection I wish to record our appreciation of the services of Messrs. C. B Robertson and Dr. McElney, who as a sub-committee supervised, the alterations.

In concluding my comments on the accounts. I wish to express our thanks to Mr. Black our Honorary Treasurer for his unremitting in- terest in the Club's affairs and the valued assistance which he renders to the Committee. (Applause). '
A WEARING. BUSINESS We look forward with our usual optimism to another season, and I can only ask members to accord our players all the support they As indicated in our Pre- deserve. sldent's speech in May, this highly organised competitive football in which we seem to become enmesh- ed-every season is a wearing busi- ness for the teams. and threatens to encourage a viclous partisan. ship. Not that I suggest this Club should stand entirely aloof from competitive sport: there is ample room in the Clubhouse, for cups and shields and such like trophies, and I would close with a word of exhortation to our players to be mare assiduous in their training, and to play to their utmost on all
occasions.
Our bowling members did well last year and opened the present season by entering three league teams
