REVIEW
Leaders of all major economic organizations in Tokyo. Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nagoya and Yokohama are to be mobilized shortly after closing of the extraordinary Diet session in order to devise measures to cope with the national emergency.
As noted in previous articles, when executives of the four largest economic organizations, viz. the Zen-San-Ren, the Economic Federa- tion, the Industrial Club and the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry met on Thursday afternoon (5th), Mr. Fujiwara, president of the O Paper Company, in his capacity as chairman of the Zen- San-Ren, strongly advocated the launching of an extensive "thrift" campaign for the purpose of assisting the Government In the diges- tion of national bonds.
While supporting Mr. Fujiwara's proposal, however, many leaders said that financial circles to-day face a number of very important problems. Among those questions claiming immediate attention are the expansion of productive power, the defending of the Yen ex- change and the checking of an abrupt rise in commodity prices: 1t is imperative for all leading economic organizations to study emergency measures from all angles. Mr. Fujiwara's proposal ought to be treated as a part of such measures.
The upshot of the discussion, was the agreement that they should form a special committee through which to elaborate Qovernment. ziose co-operation with the emergency measures in The committee is to consist of leaders of the Economic Federation. the Industrial Club, the Zen-San-Ren, the Bankers' Association, the Insurance Association and other associations of a national nature, as well as representatives of chambers of commerce and industry and- other organizations in the six largest cities.
It is believed that the new national committee will be formed shortly after the closing of the Diet session.
