Demanding Money With Menaces

Appearing before Mr. K. Keen yesterday. Lo Kau, was charged with demanding money with

Sergeant Cashman In menaces. outlining the case stated that on August 1. at' about 5 p.m. the com- plainant was walking along Con- naught Road add when he reached the Tai Ping Wharf, a man came up to him and said "Younger bro- ther, you have received your salary so you should give me some."

The complainant is reply, said that he had not received his salary yet but promised to give him a portion when he did. The com- plainant met" the same two men again the following day and they demanded $2.80 but complainant still informed them that, he had not been paid yet, so he promised to pay them that night.

On August 3, he met them again and this time they pulled him aside Into Cochrane Street and told him that if he did not show up that night with the money, he would be beaten to the extent that medi- cal attention would not help him very much. At this stage the de- fendant came to him and told him that it would be advisable to pay. The complainant made arrange- ments to meet him at the Queen's Theatre at 10.45 p.m. that evening. The complainant meanwhile re- ported the matter to the police and when he met the defendant they arrested him..

Evidence was "given by Leung Kwck-wah, complainant, who corrobrated Sergeant Cashman's opening.

His Worship sentenced defendant to four months' imprisonment and recommended him for banishment.
