a paper

I beg to enclose return drawn up by the Superintendent of Police, showing the number of Piratical captures made during the year - in explanation of the apparent discrepancy between this and the statement in paragraph 8 of the Despatch above referred to, I beg to observe that Mr. May has only returned reports made of attacks belonging to Vessels of this Colony.

With reference to paragraph 4 of Despatch No. 7, in which the procural of two steamers is recommended, I am still of opinion that the employment of such Vessels is desirable, that they should be of light draught of Water, and under the Control of the Colonial authorities.

The Colony might well bear a portion of the necessary current expenses.

I have the honor to be,

With the highest respect,

Your Lordships'

Most Obedient Humble Servant,
