WHAT WOMEN ARE WEARING
In London, Paris, New York
The summer weather has made. London's West End streets look like dower gardens with the print- ed dresses women" are 'wearing of every pattern and colour.

Garden party dresses come out for polo: floating affairs, long- skirted, of chiffon, Ih flower de- signs, with big hats.
The younger onlookers among the spectator sporters at Wimble- don have been choosing trim suits of linen or printed dresses with short sleeves.
Hats are rather large, and the colourful rimmed sun goggles are u conceit as well as a utility.

Many houses show variations of the waltz-dress style not only for "waltzing" but for informal dinner dates and those hundred and one occasions when an afternoon diess is too dull and a long dress 100. formal Paris calls them "Exhibi- tion Dinner Dresses."
Mainbocher shows an attractive model in fine checked toffeta, black and white, with a very ful! gored skirt about three-quarter length over a frilly full petticoat in stin emerald green tulle

Mainbocher also shows a good- looking Exhibition "Dinner Dress' in black organza with a full-shap- ed skirt, short, over a black-taffeta · foundation and a little tailored Jacket in two thicknesses of or-

Schiaparelli's new dance dresses in tulle and morsseline come very short in front, fall to the heet in the back and are iade over far- ing faille foundations. Mainbocher shows the same line in shot green taffeta, short in front and when I say short, I mean short!-Baring. out into three enormous back godets that sweep the floor be- hind.
The Molyneux version of the short dinner dress is more conven- tional and certainly easier to wear. It is in black woollen, cat almost like an afternoon, dress with revers wrap-over vest and pocket flaps in silver lame embroidered in su- ver sequins. With it is worn a lame and sequin skuli cap worn on the back of the head trimmed with a wide circular veil in fine black. tulle. Captain Molyneux calls this style the "dontdressfor- diriner" dress-all in one word!'
In Heim's Collection I liked a certain black "surprise" two or three-piece consisting of a neat, straight little coat over a, black wool dress featuring-anexpectedly a bolero effect in heavy gold se. quins. It was the kind of outfi that would carry you through an ‚afternoon's, shopping in town and on to a sherry party or an infor mal dinner, later.
