ROYAL NAVY

RETURN OF THE BERWICK The cruiser Berwick, Captain R. Bent, DS.O., arrived at Ply- mouth on July 6. from the China Station. She left on July 12, "for the Nore, arriving at Sheerness on July 13 and Chatham on July 14.

The Berwick is to undergo large repairs at Chatham, for which a first instalment of £195,100 is in- cluded in the Navy Estimates. Sha is the last of the five cruisers of the Kent class to be refitted in this way. The Cumberland and Suñolk have returned to China after overhaul, and the Kent and Cornwall are now in hand. The salterations in the ships already completed have included the fit ting of extra armour protection. the increase of the 4in. anti-air- craft guns from four to six, and provision for three amphibious air- craft instead of the former single seaplane.
