when vacated by
the expected resignation of Mr Cay, the failure of whose health will
in
all probability prevent his return to this Colony.
Mr Alexander is
a
zealous and valuable public servant, and has for upwards of 3 years performed satisfactorily the duties of the office he solicits. I beg therefore to recommend
him as Mr. Cay's
and to state
my
conviction
that the duties of Registrar
of
will be as efficiently conducted hereafter, under Mr. Alexander's
charge.
It has been already
argued that on
recuring in the Judicial Department the salaries, be
reduced, and I would
consequently propose that the salary of £600 be now
assigned to the Registrar
which sum
was
originally
fixed at the establishment
of the
office, but subsequently
increased to £750 under the
administration of Sir John Davis.
