Independence Day Observed At American Club.
GOVERNOR REPLIES TO TOAST
The American Club presented an animated appearance yes- terday morning when the American Consul and Mrs. Donovan were "at home" to the American community of Hong Kong and to their many British friends,
The Club was delightfully white and blue, and the “Stars by the Union Jack. “
The Corisul and Mrs. Howard Donovan received their guests in the spacious Club room, and they were assisted by Mr. and Mrs. B.

Mrs. Donovan looked extremely smart in a dress of very dark navy broderie Anglaise, belted with red, and with large red buttons, and a wide picture hat of white Manila straw, and she wore a spray of white myrtle. Mrs. Pethick looked very charming in patterned silk with a hat of black, trimmed with a tiny posy of flowers.

Mr. Edgar Davidson, making the application, said: "Mr. Johnson Wong in June, 1934, supplied cer- tain information on which a war- rant was granted for the arrest of Mr. Chan Lim-pak. Managing Director of the Nanyang Tobacco- Company. Mr. Chan was arrested and came before the Court on June IN OHUSEN 6., 1934. The case was remanded for a week, but Mr. Chan did not
again appear in Court and his bail was estreated.
This was three years ago. My ellent acted then as a large share- holder in the Nanyang Tobacco Company in the interests of him- self and others because of the be- lief that certain things were going on which should not have been going on and there is no doubt there was at least a prima facie case.
