THREE LAUNCHES
Three new shipa of the 1935 programme, two destroyers and a mining tender, were launched re- cently. There was a twin launch at the Vickers-Armstrongs' yard, Walker-on-Tyne, of the destroyers Afridi, and Cossack, the first of the gew Tribal class
The Afridi was named by Lady Foster, wife of General Sir Richard Foster, late Adjutant-General, Royal Marines; and the Cossack by Mrs. Goddall, wife of Mr. 8: V. Goodall, Director of Naval Con- struction.
These destroyers are of 1,850 tons, compared with the 1350 tons of the Intrepid class in the same programme, and are armed with eight instead of four 4.7in guns.... the most powerful gun armament ever mounted in British destroyers.
