Silver prices were lower yester- day to the extent of 1/16 for Ready and 1/8 for Forward,, the quotations being 19 3/4 for both deliveries, Silver, advices reported India as having sold. America bought. The market was steady, After the official £xing the market ruled steady with buyers at the rate but sellers were scarce. American Silver was quoted at 44 3/4 for Spot.

The London-New York cross- rate was quoted at 494.87. New York-London was quoted at 494.- 3/8.

MARKET Opened quiet but later eased off owing to some demand.

STERLING Opened with sellers at 1/2 13/16. buyers bidding 1/2 27/32 resulting in business later at 1/2 13/16 for July delivery. The market closed with sellers at 1/2 25/32 for near and forward, buyers at 1/2 13/18 for any delivery.
