LAUNCH OF THE GLEANER The minesweeper Gleaner "was launch at West Hartlepool on June 12 by William Gray & Co., Limited. who also have in hand a similar ship, the Hazard, launched in The Gleaner, in February last. addition to minesweeping, is being fitted as a surveying ship, and when completed about September next will take the place of the Beaufort, which has been paid off at Devon- port."
Vickers-Armstrongs. Limited, on September 7. Authorized in the 1935 programme. the Triton is the Arst of a new class of patrol sub- marines of 1,095 tons, armed with 44, gun, and is due for com pletion in March next. Four others of this class have been laid down under the 1936 programme, and seven more are about to be ordered under the 1937 programme, so that by the end of 1939 there should be a dozen vessels of the new class In service, Y

Summary Court Action
Before the Pakšne Judge, Mr. Justice R. Lindsell, in the Sum- mary Court yesterday, Mr. H. A. Castro, of Messrs. Loxley and Com-- pany, brought a claim for $859 for damages to property, agamat his former landlord, Mr. Wong Ping- suen compradore of the F. and 0. Steam Navigation Company.
The plaintia was represented by Mr. M. A. da Silva, while the Hon.. Mr. M. K. Lo appeared on behalf of the defendant who brought a counter-claim against the plain- tiff for $285, being three months' rent, including one month's rent in lieu of notice.
The plaintif stated in his claim, which was made up of damage to clothing, blankets, children's beds, оде baby grand school books, plano and furniture, breakage of electrical fittings, .... re- crockery, moval expenses and surveyor's fees, that he rented No. 14 Essex Crescent, Kowloon Tong, upon the terms that defendant should keep the roofs and outer wall," of the premises in a proper tenantable state of repair. He alleged that defendant had not kept the roofs in a proper state of repair, in spite of repeated requests on his part. urging defendant to do so.
ROOF BLOWN OFF ⠀⠀ Arising out of the typhoon on the morning of August of 17 last year, a considerable portion of the Toof of the premises in question was blown away, as a result of which the ceilings of two eastern room on the upper floor collapsed, causing considerable damage to plaintiff's property.
LUCKY ESCAPE.
In the course of his evidence plaintiff said that about 2 a.m, on August 17, in the midst of a typhoon and heavy rain, the east corner of the 'roof was blown off, shortly after which, the rest of that side of the roof caved in, but fortunately after he had his family had gone downstairs. The heavy rain poured down and flooded the whole house.
The following day plaintif in- formed defendant and his son D.A.D.V.B.-Major M. A. Murphy, about the damage but they did
not go to inspect the house.
