The first witness in yesterday's hearing was Chung Kuen Tak. elder sister of the fugitive who atated that he was born in Laichi- kok, and that she had lived in the

same

house with him. Witness stated that her father's name was Chung Luk and that he had mar ried her mother here in Hong Kong and then took her to the country.

He was employed in Government Service for over 20 years, and died when the defendant was 10 years of age. Witness also stated that her mother died the following

year.

However, June 5, 1937, is not only an outstanding date because of the new fleet which the KLM. are starting to operate, but also on account of the inauguration of the first non-surcharge, alrmall scheme. From June 5. onwards all mails between the Netherlands and the 'Netherlands East Indies

air unless expressly specided to will-automatically be carried by

the contrary. The Airmail rate is being reduced to 123 cts. (appr. 3d.) for the first 10 gram (-35 oz.) and the boat mail raised from 6

cts. for the first 20 grams, and only if explicitly indicated on the envelope, mall will be forwarded by surface transport. Since 10 grams is ample allowance for at least four quarto sheets of the ultra-light airmail paper. It is expected that the amount of mail carried by sea will be practically nil, and sea-borne lettermail will virtually cease to exist. The change over from DC-2 to

DC-3

and from sea-mall to airmail, as regards the Netherlands East In- dies will take place on June 16 next.
