LOCAL BASEBALL SURPRISE

A surprise was caused among local baseball fans yesterday morn- ing at Caroline Hill when the Volunteers were defeated by the Nippon team by 11 runs to three The Nippons won the toss and batted first and in the first innings they secured seven runs,

.

Bowen pitched very poorly and it was mainly through this that the Nipponese were able to secure a lead at the commencement of the game. A

Some very ane pitching was done by Amazaka and, in the last innings, when he was taken off the mound, the Volunteers were able to secure two runs.

After the fourth innings Pereira relieved Bowen and was fairly successful.
