The market closed steady, After the official" fixing there were buyers at the fixed rates. The New York mar- ket was closed yesterday.
The London-New York cross- rate was lower at 492.28.

Opened steady but subsequently the market eased off owing to some demand, "The undertone to- wards lunch time was still'inclin- ed to easiness.
