The following thought,provoking article, in' which the author attempts to visualise the future of the Colonial Empire, is taken from the current issue of the Crown Colonist. Regarding Hong Kong it is stated that the Colony lately has experienced vicis- situdes, but it has an immensely greater future.

Rome, May 30. The Chinese Vice-Chairman of the Executive Yuan and Minister of Finance, Dr. H. H. Kung, who was accompanied by the Minister of Navy, H. E. Chen, were received in audience at the Quirinal this morning by King Victor Emmanuel of Italy. The Chinese guests were brought from their hotel in the Royal gala and on their arrival at the Palace were accorded military honours. King Victor Emmanuel III remained in conversation with the two ministers for a consider able time and interested himself in the progress made in China under the National Government.

The "Stampa" parti- cularly emphasises his political tact and ability which he display- ed during the Slan Revolt when Marshal Chiang was detained. The paper even goes as far as to say' that the final liberation of Marshal Chiang Kai Bhek was due to the wise and prudent Govern- ment policy conducted by Dr. H. pire, the extraordinary mixture.
