Dr. H. H. Kung, interviewed by! Reuter, referred to the conversa- tion with Mr. Anthony Eden with the greatest pleasure and dismiss- ed Chinese anxieties over

the fullest confidence in the sin- cerity of British Interest in China's welfare.

It is believed that the Anglo- Japanese conversations will begin after the Imperial Conference. The recent reports of improve- ment in the relations not only be- tween China and Japan but also between Russia and Japan has favourably impressed London.

Dr. Kung this morning had A conversation with Viscount Kano, London manager of the Yokohama Specie Bank. Afterwards, 生ビー

companied by Mr. Quo Tal-chi, Dr. Kung conferred at length with Mr. Neville Chamberlain.

Although no statement of Chi- nese nancial schemes is obtain- able, it can be said that the at- mosphere in the city appears to be defriitely favourable. One feature of the Chinese dele. gation's visit is the attention it is attracting in the popular press.

RELATIONS WITH CHINA

Mr. Eden On British Policy

In an after-dinner speech of welcome, to Dr. H. H. Kung, Special Ambassador and chief delegate of China for the Coronation, Mr. Anthony Eden said British policy had but one objective in China, to assist the Chinese people, if they should need our assistance, in the work of reconstruction on which the Chinese Government were now engaged. There was every reason why cordial relations should con- tinue and even improve.

A peaceful and prosperous China would benefit all countries having relations with her and would con- stitute an important stabilizing element in the Far East. It was to be hoped that, in the great evolution that was beginning China might be "guided to choose the best in Western methods and adapt them to her own beat traditions.

Dr. Kung sald be brought from the Government and people of China respect and admiration for the new King and Queen, and good will towards this Empire. He people in saying that it was their voiced the sentiments of 470,000,000 sincere wish that Great Britain might enjoy under its new monarch such a reign of peace as would make it a truly great epoch.
