PHILIPPINE
MINING NEWS
The board of directors of the Surigao Consolidated Mining Com- pany has voted to purchase and install a 200-ton cyanide plant on its property in Mindanao, R. C. Peyer, one of the directors, told the "Manila Bulletin." Part of the mill has already been ordered, and the rest of the equipment will be ordered during the next two weeks
One of the power plant units, a 320-horsepower Atlas Polar Diesel engine, has been installed, and an- rther unlt of the same size is due to arrive in the near future.
Offidals of the company said that their decision was made after It had been established that there was enough ore blocked out to run & 200-ton mill for the next five years. While the initial capacity will be 200 tons daily, the mill layout has been based on a 300-ton plant, The expansion will take place after the original plant is put into operation.

Cancellation Announced
Paris, May 18.
The Air Minister will cancel the New York to Paris air race in agreement with the International. Aeronautical Federation, according to an announcement here... This, however, may lead to legal action. by the participants in view of the engagements they have under- taken and the Federation may have to agree to another course, possibly over the South Atlantic:
The Air Ministry has no inten- tion of making the starting point in Canada since the reasons for refusing licenses by the United States are equally applicable to a Canadian starting point.-
