Madame Poznanski is the widow of Alfed Poznanski, generally known as M. Savoir, who wrote the play "La Petite Catherine." which was performed in Paris in 1930.
Mr. and Mrs: Vernon, who had the exclusive rights of the play. In England and elsewhere adapted it for presentation at the Phoenix Theatre. London. in 1931, and the plaintiffs allege that, their copy- right had been infringed in the film "Catheririe the Great."
London Film Productions deny the allegation. They plead that both ilm and play could be com- piled from historical documents, and that the film was so producca, without reference to the play.
Sir Seymour Hicks was the first witness for the defence. He told the Court that he had been in the theatrical profession all his life: and had produced about 300. that he had written about 60 plays
