ANOTHER FINANCIAL LOSS

ON "STREET SINGER”

Replying to a question asked by Mr. J. Shaw regarding the production of "The Street Singer" Dr. D. J. Valentine, President of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society, told members at the annual meeting held yesterday in St. John's Cathedral Hall, that again there was another loss. This time it was even greater than "Maid of the Mountains” and was somewhere in the neighbour- hood of 3900 or $1,000.

"It is a great disappointment," said the President, “but I am certain that the show was well appreciated by those who saw it but the trouble is to get people to come. We spent quite a fair amount on advertising and yet some people are very loath to

"If I Were Queen

By "Acwo" In Wonderland

What should I do if I were Queen?

29.

And what would other women do, if any one of them had the chance of being Queen?

Each individual might have a different idea on this subject. So, out of curiosity I asked some representative members of the public to give their views, and here are some of the replies,

LITTLE GIRL'S WISH

A charming little girl of my ac- quaintance, admitted that she had own a REAL always wished to crown, and said that if she had one she would wear it quite a lot. 'certainly, whenever she went to party, and possibly for church on Sundays. She would never wear it at school (except perhaps for Prize giving day) but frankly admitted she would much like to appear in a crown at Happy Valley, when children are admitted, on

"the last Saturday of the Annual

Meeting.

WHAT AMAH WOULD DO Her amah questioned on this same point was not very helpful. It was hard to make her under- stand the problem.
