OF AIR ARM

Dual System May End Soon

By HECTOR C. BYWATER, "Daily Telegraph" Naval Correspondent

In naval circles, confidence is cxpressed that for the first time, since 1918, the Navy will soon re- gain practically full control of the Fleet Air Arm. now administered jointly by the Air Ministry and the Admiralty, writes a correspondent,

the "Daily Telegraph."

It is known that the matter has been under consideration by the Cabinet since early in the year. and there are 'persistent reports that the Admiralty has made good Its case. On the other hand, in- formation from well-informed sources points to the probability of a compromise being adopted.

TILAWA... In one important respect there SANTHIA will be no departure from the TALMA existing system. The Alr. Ministry will still be solely responsible for the supply of all aircraft and equipment for the Fleet Air Arm.

The Navy has always had com- plete control of its air when at sea And all personnel embarked in warships are subject to naval discipline. But when aircraft and personnel- including oval cicer nilots are landed they pas a ̈1omically un- der RAF administration.

arm R.A.F.

This anomaly is likely to be recti- fied by setting aside certain aero- dromes and training centres for the exclusive use of the Fleet Air Arm and placing them under naval command.

NEW AIRCRAFT CARRIERS The factor which is understood to have hastened the Government's decision is the impending huge expansion of the Fleet Air Arm Five big aircraft carriers are now building or about to be ordered, and a total of 114,000 tons is due to be in service, by 1940.
