Chinese Merchants Play Hosts At Dinner

Practically all the prominent Chinese residents and merchants of the Colony were present at an enjoyable dinner party, which was given jointly by the Chairman and members of the Com-.. mittee of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, the Chairmen and Board of Directors of the Tune Wah Hospital and the Po Leung Kuk, at the Kwang Chow Restaurant, West Point, last night, In honour of the Hon. Dr. Li Shu-fan's appointment to the Legis- lative Council.

The hall of the Restaurant was gally decorated for the occasion, and the Hon. Dr. Li received the hearty congratulations of his large circle of friends.

CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH

In proposing the toast of the honoured guest, the chairman, Mr. Li Sing-kul, speaking in Chinese. said:

According to the sage, Dr. Li is not only able to prolong and save life, but he can also cure the ills of the kingdom. Such is the sage's reference to the good doctors of yore, and we take no exception to-day as applied to our guest of honour, the Hon. Dr. Li Shu-lan.
