Her principal dimensions are:- Length 220 ft; Breadth 40 It: Depth to Upper Deck 15 ft. 9 ins. The vessel is classed 100 A. I. at Lloyd's, and has excellent accom- modation for 1st, 2nd and 3rd class passengers.

Passengers ате carried on superstructure decks, which extend from well forward of amidships to the stern. Particular care has

been taken to provide adequate ventilation and light to the accom- modation by means of large win- dows.

All deck auxillarics are electric. The windlass, steering gear "and cargo winches being suppiled by Messrs. Thomas B. Thrige & Co.

weight championship between Fus. Frimston of the Royal Welsh Fusi- liers and L/Sgt. Matheson of the Seaforth Highlanders, proved to be a great success for the latter who won on points. It will be remem- bered that Fus. Frimston knocked Going in their out Lt.

previous fight last week.

Another interesting bout was that between Pte. Black of the Seaforth Highlanders who won the semi-finals of the bantamweight against Rifleman Hughes of the Royal Ulster Rifles and then losing the final to Fus. Jenkins of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. It was t very close fight and the winner Just managed to wiri on points over a very plucky opponent who put up a very good fight although he received severe punishment in the first round.

In the middleweight class Opl.! Weaver of the Royal Welsh Fusi- llers succeeded in knocking out Cpl. Butterfield of the R.A.0.C. in the first round of their fight.

In the light-heavyweight Cpl. Henderson of

the trophies to the respective win-

the Royal Welsh Cpl Henderson Fusillers knocked out Füs. Powell in the second round of their fight. | Fus. Powell had the best of the first round and it was a great surprise to the public that he was unfortunate enough to be knocked❘ out in the second round. Had the fight lasted t the third and last Jenkins of the RWF. beat Pte. round Fus. Powell would have stood | Black ôf the Seaforths on points.

JADE

(Continued from Page 1.)

AT WANG HING'S To give an example from the shop of the oldest established jeweller in the Colony (Wang Hing of Queen's Road). On his counter you may see a ring of dark trans lucent jade which is valued at four thousand dollars. Nearby is an- other ring, equally large and just as well set, but it is a lighter green and is worth only four hundred dollars, and next to that you may see a piece of lovely pale green motsy jade (to the Inexperienced eye it may seem more beautiful than the others) and moreover it is cleverly carved with the design of a colling dragon. And this at- tractive plece could be yours for just a modest fifty dollars!

Much of the jade which is “work- ed" in Canton comes from the The Legazpi will sail for Mani- mountains of Burma, but of course la within a few days.

a very great deal is found in the mountains of North China.

At yesterday's trials, the Legaz- pl's speed was as follows: Quarter power, 9.38 knots: half power 11,32 knots; three-quarters power, 12.4 knots; full out, 13.41 knots; ten per cent over load, 13.83 knots.

AS A "MEDICINE-STONE" Jade is highly prized by the Chinese. (It is indeed almost re- verenced, as being the symbol of purity), but it has another virtue. T is also known as the medicine- stone as it has a curative effect in some diseases, and this fact is known in other countries as well 3.3 China. The Mexicans were known to use it mèdicinally be-. fore they began to wear it as an adornment

.fi

A comprehensive account of this priceless precious stone would fill a tome, and this article is in no sense meant to be "scientific."

Those who purpose to buy jade should take advice from an ex- pert, or from any jeweller of re- pute in the Colony. Local jewel-

lers take a great pride in being fair to tourists, in this matter, so the prospective buyer will be per-

fectly safe to trust himself in their
