WAR
MAY END IN COMPROMISE
Italian Professor's Opinion
Canton, May 4, The terrible war in Spain may end in a compromise provided there is no loss of face to the contending parties and the foreign countries involved, stated to-day Professor Carlo Fornari of Rome University and now professor of corporative law in Sun Yat-sen University.
"Many lives and considerable money are lost by each parti- elpant," said Dr. Fornari, who is a keen student in European poli- tics and speaks fluent English and French. "Each side is so much entangled in the Spanish war that a withdrawal amount- ing to defeat would be disastrous."
Professor Forhart stated that Italy has no objection to a Leftist government or whatever regime in it is divorced Madrid, provided from Communist affiliations. The Italian scholar expressed horror concerning the recent aerial bom- bardment of Guernica und ad- mitted General Francisco Franco might not be a suitable leader for Spain,
